The team
We have a high calibre specialist team in place, led by Dr Monica Roche, which is dedicated to supporting the highest standards of quality assurance.
The team are a well-established and respected source of independent expert advice to SHA, commissioners and providers about the quality and safety of screening programmes - ensuring national standards are met and there is a measurable improvement in quality and outcomes.
Dr Monica Roche
Monica is the Cancer Screening Quality Assurance Director for the South Central area, with overall responsibility for quality assurance and evaluation of the three cancer screening programmes. She is also the Medical Director of the Oxford Cancer Intelligence Unit, which delivers the cancer registration and intelligence functions for the local area. Monica leads on the health intelligence and screening capabilities for Solutions for Public Health (SPH).
Dr Sadhana Bose
Sadhana is the Acting Quality Assurance Director for Breast Screening for the South Central SHA area. She also leads on Clinical Quality Reports for the South East Public Health Observatory.
Sadhana joined the organisation in March 2009 and has a special interest in cancer control. She brings relevant experience from a range of national and international settings, including a secondment to India in 2008 following award of the 2008/09 UKIERI fellowship to promote smoke free communities in India. Prior to the fellowship, Sadhana worked as a consultant in Berkshire East PCT, during which time she led on tobacco control and cancer screening.
Liz is the Bowel Cancer Screening Quality Assurance Programme Manager for South Central. She has been instrumental in setting up the Bowel Cancer Screening QA for South Central since April 2009 when the national QA teams were appointed.
Liz coordinates Quality Assurance for Bowel Cancer Screening across this area and her role includes organising QA visits, liaison and ongoing support for each programme, monitoring adverse incidents across the region, organising regular regional meetings and attending relevant national events.
Liz has also championed the development of protocols and systems to help implement QA in bowel cancer screening. She previously worked for a global management consultancy in their healthcare division as a project manager.
Pat Adams
Pat is the Cervical Screening Quality Assurance Programme Manager for Thames Valley, Hampshire and Isle of Wight. Her role involves developing and maintaining a programme of Quality Assurance across all aspects of the cervical screening programme in the South Central Region. This includes scheduling QA visits to the programmes to ensure the quality of the programme by assessing compliance with minimum standards for each discipline; identifying and promoting good practice and identify areas for improvement and making recommendations to achieve this.
Previously Pat held the role of Breast Screening Programme Manager for South Central, as well as covering the equivalent post for the South East Coast region.
Xiao Hui Liao
Hui is the Breast Cancer Screening Quality Assurance Programme Manager for South Central. Her role is to plan, develop, monitor and manage a comprehensive breast screening quality assurance programme to help maintain and further develop effective high quality breast screening throughout the region.
Hui received medical training in China and subsequently specialised in Gynae-Obstetrics. She gained a Master degree in Public Health in Glasgow University 1994, and has significant experience of public health research in both Scotland and England, including cervical screening QA and a number of national audits.
Hui joined SPH in May 2000 and has over 10 years experience in the breast screening QA field. Her clinical experience and expertise in public health allow her to offer advice to Primary Care Trusts about the quality and effectiveness of the breast screening service - informing them of any problems identified by the quality assurance service. She is also responsible for liaising with breast screening units and hospital management regarding appropriate actions to remedy or prevent the recurrence of problems identified by the quality assurance service.
Elaine Harrison
Elaine is the Administrator for all 3 QA screening programmes – breast, bowel and cervical. She is also the Regional Facilitator for the National Gynaecological Cytopathology External Quality Assurance Programme and Project Manager for the Bowel Cancer Screening QA.
Her career to date includes over 15 years experience working in various NHS pathology departments, where she specialised in Immunology. She has also worked as Customer Care Manager for an international manufacturer of immunological reagents, as part of an Oracle implementation team, and as a freelance trainer.
Janelle de Sa
Janelle is the Public Health Data Manager for South Central QARC Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. Janelle is responsible for managing data collection, validation, analysis and reporting for quality assurance monitoring of the NHS South Central Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (BCSP).
In her role she liaises with the Southern Hub and South Central BCSP screening centres to ensure that staff are familiar with data collection and audit procedures. She also liaises with the national Bowel Cancer Screening database developers to enhance the quality of data and QA reporting systems on the national database.
Janelle also contributes to the Cervical and Breast screening programmes through provision of monthly and quarterly statistics for the Breast screening programme; and works with the KC returns and the Invasive Cancer Audit for the Cervical screening programme at QARC.
Sally Chatterton
Sally is the Public Health Data Manager for Breast Screening in the South Central Region. Sally has worked in the NHS Screening Programmes for fifteen years with experience in both cervical and breast screening QA. With over 10 years of experience in breast screening Sally has invaluable knowledge of the Breast Screening Programme.
Her role in liaising with multidisciplinary team members within the Breast Screening Programmes is pivotal in the collection and validation of high quality accurate data, which is used to produce annual national statistics. Sally is responsible for both the local and regional analysis of Breast Screening Programme Performance data and for producing regional QA reports.
Sue Noble
Sue is the Public Health Data Manager for Cervical Screening in the South Central Region. Sue has 23 years experience working in the NHS; she first joined the Oxford Cancer Registry in 1989 and gained expert knowledge in clinical coding and behaviour of all tumours. She has worked as part of the NHS Quality Assurance Programme for both Breast and Cervical Screening.
Having worked in Cervical Screening Quality Assurance since its introduction Sue has developed an invaluable knowledge of the Programme. Her role in liaising with multidisciplinary team members within the Cervical Screening Programmes is pivotal in the collection and validation of high quality accurate data which is used to produce annual national statistics. Sue is responsible for both local and regional analysis of Cervical Screening Programme Performance data and for producing local and regional QA reports. Sue is also responsible for regional data collection and analysis of the CRUK Audit of Cervical Cancers.
