Developing capacity
If public targets are to be achieved all organisations must seek to raise understanding of health and wellbeing across their workforces. The professional public health workforce ranges from those who provide strategic leadership and development of policy leading to improvements in population health to those that work on the ground developing and delivering specific programmes and projects designed to improve and protect health and reduce inequalities. In addition, many in the workforce who would not refer to themselves as public health workers nevertheless make a substantial impact on health through their roles, whether working directly with families or communities or leading health and social care organisations.
