Solutions for Public Health
Solutions for Public Health (SPH) is a not-for-profit NHS public health organisation. We work with decision makers across public and third sectors to improve health and reduce health inequalities. We help our clients provide the right services in the right place, for the right population, at the best cost and quality.
We do this by:
- identifying the health needs of their populations
- interpreting the evidence what works
- evaluating the quality and productivity of their services
- implementing the changes to provide better health and better value health care
We provide our clients with specialised solutions across health intelligence, commissioning, screening, and public health workforce. Our clients include the Department of Health, GPs, local authorities, PCTs, and strategic health authorities.
Just some of the areas where we are helping our clients deliver better public health outcomes:
We help our clients tackle public health issues
The work of the National Obesity Observatory provides a single point of contact for wide-ranging authoritative information and evidence on obesity and its determinants.
We help NHS organisations manage scarce resources
Our work on appraisals ensures that PCTs are able to make a positive contribution to NICE guidance.
We develop the right healthcare services for populations
Through our work with healthcare commissioners we help assess population needs and develop the very best healthcare services for populations.
We help our clients make cost effective decisions
We inform policy decisions by providing expert evidence reviews on clinical and cost effectiveness within ethical frameworks.
We undertake public surveillance functions
We deliver the Oxford Cancer Intelligence Unit, helping decision makers access data and information about trends in incidence, prevalence and survival rates, as well as quality and outcomes of cancer care.
We provide meaningful, high-quality intelligence
We run the public health observatory for the South East, equipping decision makers with health information and intelligence to inform decisions on people's health and healthcare.
We improve the quality of screening
We support the delivery of breast, cervical and bowel cancer screening programmes through our external quality assurance.
We strategically plan and develop the public health workforce
In partnership with Skills for Health we developed the UK Public Health Skills and Career Framework, used to inform public health planning, training and skills.
We help our clients keep pace with data management
We are delivering the South East Drug Treatment Monitoring Unit which outlines data requirements to stakeholders and supports drug treatment agencies in collecting and managing client data.
